Spence, I’ve always felt that I don’t belong. Not to anyone or anything. But I’ve also felt that I don’t want to belong or fit in. Are my feelings normal?
GIVING A VOICE TO ONE’S FEARS & ACKNOWLEDGING ONE’S TRUTH
Yes, your feelings are natural, and I am proud of you for giving a voice to your fears. I like to think that when we were born, we all knew that we were perfect as is and that we belonged. We belonged to God and to the Divine mind. And we knew that God was always walking with us because we were God. Created with a piece of the Divine himself inside of us.
It’s only when we began to grow, surround ourselves with others and their ideologies and thoughts about who we are and who we should be, that we forget that we’ve always belonged and always will. That we are always perfect and that nothing we experience, say or do with our time here on Earth could ever or would ever change that.
We’ve all grown up in a world that has wanted us to assimilate, to become something we weren’t, aren’t and never could be. A world where we are taught to go along to get along. A world where being yourself is discouraged. And I’m not sure why that is. Why are we encouraged to follow in the steps of others or create a life for others? It’s mind-boggling.
RUNNING FROM ONE’S AUTHENTICITY
And the only true reason that comes to mind is fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of realizing that watching someone else create and live an authentic life means we didn’t believe enough in ourselves, our talents or our powers to create an authentic life worth living that nourishes our spirit and feeds our soul.
THE DIVINE MIND
So, I say to you, revel in that feeling of not wanting to belong or fit in. Because I’ll let you in on a little secret. You do belong and you are perfect just as you are. You may not belong in society or with society, but you belong with the Divine. You are connected, always, to the Divine mind and to your spiritual brothers and sisters.
SPIRITUAL BEINGS HAVING A PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE
It may seem as if you don’t have anything in common with those who choose to fit in or belong, but you do. Because we are all spiritual beings having a physical experience and learning to love ourselves, accept ourselves and realize our truths.
DIVINE LOVE INCARNATE
Our truths of not having to try. Of not having to step outside of ourselves to fit in or receive love. Our truths of knowing that we are beings of love and light and that we are always and will always be loved. And that we are Divine love incarnate.
We don’t have to strive, we don’t have to try, we are already perfect. So, whenever you feel the urge to try and fit in, quiet your mind and go within saying, “I am light. I am love. I am happiness.” And feel the Divine love and light washing over you. Feel the Divine love and light you have for yourself and your inner child and even for the society that wants you to change.
STANDING IN ONE’S TRUTH
And be so secure in who you are and your authenticity that you don’t feel a need to change who you are. Stand strong in your being-ness and your otherness. Trust in yourself, your choices and the Divine. And feel secure in walking your journey authentically without needing anyone to validate your steps or your choices. Love all those that hate you, all those that fear you and even all those that desire for you to change.
FACING THE MAN IN THE MIRROR
Choose love, instead of fear, and continue walking the path that is authentically yours and being secure in not belonging with society. At the end of the day, it is you who has to look in the mirror, face yourself and truly love the person staring back at you, not society.
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
And if I haven’t said it, I am so very proud of you for acknowledging your fears and concerns and choosing to make peace with your feelings. The journey ahead to truly claim your authenticity may be a tough one with winding roads and starts and stops but the reward is oh so sweet! I wish you well on your journey to authenticity and I am rooting for you. Good Luck!
