Anonymous: I want to lose weight, but I cannot afford a gym membership right now, so I have resorted to only eating 1 meal a day.
Okay, first off, start eating. Try to eat well-balanced meals and eat 5 times a day. Eat 3 meals and 2 small snacks. Focus on eating vegetables, healthy proteins, healthy grains, and dairy products. And stop focusing on what you don’t have and start focusing on what you do have. You may not have a gym membership, but there are other ways to work out.
Begin your workout journey by taking walks in your neighborhood; they get you out of your element and allow you to clear your mind. Next, focus on working out to YouTube videos at home. You obviously have access to the internet, so this step should not be a problem. When I first began my workout journey, I would work out to Fitness Blender and Body Fit by Amy.
I believe you will like both options, but if not, search for other workout videos. There are so many to choose from, so you should have no problem in finding videos to work out to. And just focus on working out 3 times a week, remember to start off small, Rome was not built in a day. And do not push yourself too hard!
Next, focus on eliminating 150 calories out of your diet 5 days a week, it may not sound like a lot, but it adds up. I mention 5 because you don’t want to plateau with your weight gain, so just eat a normal number of calories on the weekend. And you can figure out how many calories your body needs to maintain and lose weight by using a calorie calculator, which you can find online.
And your next step is to focus on loving yourself just as you are now. If you cannot love yourself as you are now, I guarantee you the weight will not come off, and I can tell you that from personal experience. You have to love yourself in order to lose the weight. You will never lose the weight if you continuously beat yourself up over the way you look. And losing weight is a mental workout and it is all about your mind and knowing that you can achieve your goal.
So, recap, begin by going for walks in your neighborhood. Eat 3 healthy meals and 2 healthy snacks a day, then begin working out at home to YouTube videos 3 times a week. Then start cutting back on calories, eliminating 150 a day, and begin to focus on your self-esteem and loving yourself. And one more thing, drink tons of water. I usually shoot for 12 cups a day but drinking 10 cups a day is fine. Focus on healthy eating habits, sub processed snacks for healthier snacks, such as bananas, healthy Greek yogurts, popcorn, or even pretzels.
And if you are able to, it would not hurt to reach out to a licensed professional and get help. Instead of choosing to see the options before you and to see the glass as half full, you resorted to starving yourself. You can really harm yourself, as well as your body, if you continue to only eat one meal a day. I guarantee you that the 1 meal you are eating is not full of all of the nutrients your body needs to survive. And a starvation diet can have very negative lasting effects on you and your life. So please, start eating!
And answer me this, why is your appearance more important than your health? And are you trying to lose weight for the right reasons? I honestly don’t believe you are because if you were truly wanting to lose weight to perfect your health you would not starve yourself. That is the opposite of living and leading a healthy life. So, I truly believe the only reason you wish to lose weight is for your appearance.
And there is nothing wrong with wanting to look your best but if it means harming yourself in the process, then it is a big problem. And reaching out to a licensed professional, if you can, can help you get to the bottom of why you feel the need to harm yourself and self-sabotage. But also, it may help you remove the negative thinking and self-talk and help you see that your glass is half full, and never empty.
Once again, please start eating 3 healthy meals, and 2 nutritious snacks a day. And people never tell you that the weight you lose as you starve yourself comes back so quickly once you began to eat again. So, the only true way to lose weight and have it stay away for good is to eat healthy, watch your calories and work out multiple times a week.
And you can do it, I know you can! I worked out at home and ate healthy and drank tons of water and lost a total of 50 lbs. So, I know that if I can do it, you can too. Just believe in yourself, change your mindset, get to working out and going for walks and you will receive the outcome you desire but through a healthy means and with a healthy mindset. Now, go and eat something!
