I don’t know what to do, and my life is crumbling around me. I have no motivation and because of that, my grades are slipping! I’m trying so hard, but I’m still failing all of my test. I cry so hard for days and I’m gaining so much weight. I’m so unhappy, and I can’t fix it. I’m broke, my anxiety levels are through the roof and I need a job. I know I need to get one, but I’m just not ready because I’m afraid it’ll affect my grades even more. I don’t know what to do, and it seems that there’s no way out of my issues. It’s all so frustrating!

I am so sorry to hear that you are having a rough time with life. From your post, it sounds like you’re experiencing a bout of depression. Have you tried reaching out to your university’s counseling center? There are a lot of amazing professionals and kind souls there that wish to help you and can help you cope with and overcome what you are currently experiencing. If you can, set up a counseling session ASAP, or at least contact your school’s counseling center for group therapy, I believe both forms of therapy will you help feel less alone as you experience life.

Now when it comes to your grades and test, have you spoken with your professors? If not, talk to them and explain to them what you’re going through. Your professors want you to succeed so they will most likely work with you regarding your grades, and they may even let you re-take some of your exams.

Job-wise, have you tried on applying for on-campus positions? Do you have federal work study? If you do, you could always reach out to your Financial Aid Office and they could help you get a job in no time. Have you applied at your campus bookstore, library or dining hall? These positions will allow you to work around your school schedule. And instead of jumping in feet first, just poke one toe in, and think about working a few hours a week. Some work-study positions will all you to study while you work. Just know that you have options and people are open to helping you succeed.

Now it seems that you are currently a full-time student. Have you considered going part-time next semester? I know you may not wish to, but your mental and emotional health HAS to come first. And attending school part-time will allow you to work more which will enhance your financial situation. I currently work full-time and attend school part-time and it’s doable. You could even attend school part-time and work part-time, just remember, your mental and emotional health has to come first!

And know that there is always a way out. You just have to trust in yourself and believe that you can get through this dark period in your life. Instead of worrying about your situation, try thinking of positive thoughts and positive outcomes. You desire a job, so picture yourself working in a position that makes you happy. Picture your professors giving you the okay to re-take your exams and talking to you about the importance of self-care. Just think positively and picture positive outcomes, and this will allow you to relax, which will allow you to accomplish all that you desire. And I believe in you! Sometimes the tunnel may seem so dark, but just know, there is always a light at the end of it.
